Mass Sleep Out on Windrush Square

By Charlotte Latimer

Windrush Square will be filled with sleeping bags next week as over 30 people plan to ‘sleep rough’ to protest against the bedroom tax. Brixton will join more than 50 other towns and cities in a national awareness raising campaign “The Mass Sleep Out”.

The event has been organised by campaigners who fear that many people could be made homeless due to the government’s controversial tax. The Brixton Blog has previously estimated that 714 Brixton households will be affected by this tax with an average weekly income loss of £20. The tax has also been criticised for unfairly targeting disabled people.

Organisers are encouraging everyone to get involved and the sleep out will start at 7pm on Saturday, August 24.
