Brockwell Park clock tower donation appeal

RESTORATION: the clock tower at present
RESTORATION: the clock tower at present

An appeal is being made for donations to restore the Brixton Clock Tower in Brockwell Park.

Park user groups want to give the clock, known as Little Ben,  a refurbished face, a new bed of flowers around the tower base and a working clock mechanism.

The Friends of Brockwell Park, the Herne Hill Society and the Brockwell Park Community Partners are searching for donations for the restoration, which they expect to cost about £20,000. They have found funders who will match donations up to £4000, which means every pound donated will raise £2.00, along with an extra 50p gift aid bonus.

The bid is being made to honour the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and follows a £3.6m grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for People programme.

  1. Perhaps the new Sainsbury’s in Tulse Hill could make a contribution and show some goodwill in the name of the local community.

  2. Readers might also like to know that they can dedicate their donation to something or to a loved one. The name will then appear on the Brockwell Park Clock donor’s website. Sweet idea.
