Volunteers are being sought to help put the finishing touches to a distinctive community mural in Windmill Gardens. The Hands On mural project, spearheaded by artist Camila Cardenosa and Lambeth Council’s Windmill Development and Education Officer Stephen Lawlor, is the culmination of work by hundreds of volunteers. The mural explores facts, ideas, memories, and feelings about Brixton Windmill, a Grade II* listed building, now the only remaining inner-city windmill in London.

Anyone can volunteer over the coming week, and details of how to do so can be viewed at the project’s website, http://handsonwindmillgardens.tumblr.com/. The finished mural will be unveiled at a party in Windmill Gardens on Monday 6 May at 3pm.  All are welcome at the celebrations, which will feature live music, a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and family-friendly activities.
