Celebrity chef and Brixton resident Levi Roots helped launch an exhibition of Olympic artwork by Lambeth College students this week.
The winners of the annual art competition, at the Brix, St Matthews Church, Brixton Hill, were announced at an event on Monday and all entries are on show at the centre until Sunday.
As part of the long-running competition the winning painting is bought by the Brix for its permanent collection.
Mark Morrison, from the Brix, who organised the contest, told the Blog: “The interpretation of the Olympic theme has been excellent.
“This has been the best year for turn-out, with 39 pieces. Some people even tried to submit two works.”
The winning canvas, entitled Ball Lines, was painted by Niti Kaewbenjakarn and features balls spreading vivid colours around famous landmarks.
Another entrant, Olive Simpson, said she was very impressed by the high level of the entries this year. Her work depicts athletes with London landmarks in the background.
She said: “I aim to capture the motion and speed as athletes around the world compete in sports, with a panoramic view of London.”
The free exhibition is open at the Brix, St Matthew’c Church, Brixton Hill from today until Friday 10am to 7pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 6pm. Â For more info visit the website.
