Fire alert closes Brixton tube station

Brixton station has been evacuated and remains closed after smoke was seen in a tunnel.

Five fire engines are and police are at the scene, and the Victoria Line is currently suspended between Victoria and Brixton Stations.

A spokesperson from London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters are at Brixton underground station investigating a small amount of smoke in the tunnel.”

Disibility activist Joseph Healy tweeted: “Incident at Brixton station – station closed and many fire engines and police vehicles.”

Lambeth council leader, Cllr Steve Reed, said: “Brixton station closed. Police and firefighters outside. No information given.”
