Chuka Umunna voted one of UK’s best dressed men

Chuka Umunna in Brixton

Dapper Streatham MP Chuka Umunna has been named one of Britain’s best dressed men by GQ magazine.

The former lawyer, whose constituency covers part of Brixton, appears as 34th on a list of 50 sartorially-gifted gentlemen on the GQ website today, sandwiched between comedy icon Jack Whitehall and TV boffin prof Brian Cox. The final pecking order will be published in this month’s edition of the publication, available tomorrow.

When the Brixton Blog contacted Umunna’s office to congratulate him, a spokesman said: “I’m not sure that’s the kind of thing we’d want to comment on.”

The shadow business secretary, elected in May 2010, is known for his sharp designer woollen suits. In his former career as an employment lawyer, Umunna commented on the website of designer Alexandra Wood: “My suit is a true pleasure to wear, Alexandra created it to my exact specification; smart, fashionable and comfortable. I would take great pleasure in recommending her to anyone. I certainly intend on placing more orders in the near future.”
