Brixton Library Gallery presents Quid Pro Quo

exhibition posterJulia Gallego and Paul Wye met while studying the Printmaking MA at Camberwell College of Art in 2010. But their work was moving beyond print, to encompass sculptural and performative elements. Sharing an interest in mysticism and spirituality, the body as site, and a light-hearted approach to the metaphysical, they have frequently exhibited together over the past nine years.

Their exhibition at Brixton Tate Library will see their first collaborative performance piece on the opening night.

artworkJulia R. Gallego is a Spanish artist and printmaker based in London.
Her work revolves around the body – looking at sex, gender, sexuality and reproduction – and reflects her interest in the historical and cultural meanings ascribed to the female body in Western culture. She is influenced by Shunga (Japanese erotic prints) and psychoanalysis and she places the body in landscapes full of ambiguity, exuberance, playfulness and a touch of eroticism.

artworkPaul Wye is a sculptor based in London. He works with idols, votives and talismans, being drawn to their esoteric psychometry.

He employs a variety of techniques and materials and an assortment of anachronistic and disparate visual cues, to create complex works which can be read in many ways.
